Shock to Pakistan’s hopes on Kashmir issue, UN Chief made his role clear

Islamabad. Pakistan keeps trying to spread propaganda regarding Kashmir on every global platform of the world. Meanwhile, during the visit of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres to Islamabad, when he was asked questions regarding Kashmir, he himself raised serious questions on the credibility and functioning of the UN. Let us tell you that Antonio Guterres has been honored with Pakistan’s highest honor ‘Nishan-e-Imtiaz’ in Islamabad. Through this diplomacy, Pakistan tried its best to win their hearts and get a statement in its favor, but its move proved to be a complete failure.
Pakistani journalist’s question on Kashmir
During a press conference in Islamabad, a local journalist raised the issue of decades-old and still unimplemented United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir. The journalist questioned why no final decision was taken on several UNSSC resolutions and what mechanisms the UN should work on to implement the Kashmir agenda after keeping it pending for almost seven decades.
Pakistan shocked by UN chief’s reply
Answering this question of the journalist, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said that the Security Council does not accurately represent today’s changing world. It remains a serious problem of validity and effectiveness. Giving an example, he said that UNSC includes three countries with veto power from Europe, but there is not a single country from the African continent.
Guterres bluntly said that the UNSC neither has sufficient legitimacy nor the ability to have an impact on the ground. The most important condition for fully implementing any proposal is that its permanent members come together on all issues, but the truth is that they are divided among each other. The superpowers themselves often initiate conflicts and openly violate the rules of the UN Charter, thereby sending a message to the whole world that other countries can also do as they wish.
