Preparation for change in provincial structure of Pakistan, discussion on Munir’s alleged plan

Islamabad. A major change can be seen in the political structure and administrative system of Pakistan. According to reports, Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir is considering a comprehensive plan to abolish the country’s existing four provinces and divide them into smaller administrative parts.

Plan to create smaller states by breaking four provinces

At present there are four main provinces in Pakistan, Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. According to a report, a plan is being prepared to divide these four big provinces and create about 12 to 15 small provinces or about 160 small states, although this is yet to be finalized.

Administrative efficiency and increasing strength of the army

Analysts believe that if this plan is implemented, it will completely change the balance of power in Pakistan. By limiting the powers of the existing provinces, the control of the central government and the army over administrative matters can be further strengthened. Governing large areas like the most populous province of Punjab (about 128 million people) and the largest in area, Balochistan, is proving to be extremely difficult in the current system. People in rural areas have to travel long distances to urban centers to access basic facilities, which affects administrative efficiency.

Economic crisis and political impact

Pakistan is currently going through a serious economic crisis and increasing debt. In such a situation, this possible step of Field Marshal Asim Munir is being seen as a big strategy to further strengthen the hold of the Center and the military leadership in the name of administrative reform of the country.
